News in Brief from the President of the Society

The Lily Society has made a few attempts to find out more of what is happening about acquiring the lily beetle wasp for release in Saskatchewan. They have done such a good job of getting rid of the beetle in Manitoba and Alberta that the wasp has disappeared also. They are now having to be sourced from Europe and sounded hopeful in the fall. The society will send out a few more e-mails and bug people to get more information.
Please note that the White City Garden Club is having a seminar with regards to the lily beetle and acquiring the wasp. Please check their website for more information for time and location. It will be on May 13th .


Also the society will be joining with the Regina Horticultural  Society again this year for the Spring Bulb Sale. It will be on Saturday May 16th at the Victoria Square Mall. No new bulbs. Just what is left over from last fall at a reduced price. It's getting harder and harder to source bulbs. Lily Nook is not even putting out a catalogue this year.
The lily society will be having a meeting in the near future to set dates for the rest of the events happening in 2026.

Also we have been inquiring with the White City Garden Club if they are having a plant sale this year. We truly hope so. The sell a lot of beautiful plants at these sales.

The Goal of the Society:

Our goal is to educate our members in the culture of lilies and to promote the genus lilium.

Lilium is a genus (latin for descent, family, type, gender) of herbaceous flowering plants grown from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers.

From Small Beginnings:

The North American Lily Society (NALS) was organized in 1947 to promote interest in the genus Lilium. The society has active members from almost every state and province in North America, as well as from many countries around the world.

From small beginnings, we have managed to successfully carry out our original goal of interesting people in growing lilies for enjoyment as well as providing information pertaining to Lily culture. 

Informational Opportunities:

Our fall and spring bulb sales provide opportunities for people to get into lily growing and also supply our members with new and different lilies.

Along with the sale of lily bulbs, the society hosts a spring and fall seminar, featuring speakers from across Western Canada specializing in various aspects of lilies.

We publish a quarterly bulletin, which informs members of our regional activities as well as providing educational material.

The society also maintains a library of materials on the growing of lilies. Anyone interested in checking out some of the great material, may Contact Us.

Historical Gardens

The Historical Garden managed by the SSLS is located at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Depot grounds.

This garden features heritage lilies arranged in plots according to hybridizers, as well as more recent hybrids and other ornamental lilies.

It is open to visitors all summer and is sure to promote lily growing.

Our own gardens too, attract many people during the months of June and July.
